Rhode Island Red

Class: English Rhode Island Reds are a more popular breed due to their excellent egg laying ability. They can lay 200-300 extra large eggs a year. Their feathers are reddish rust with the rooster having darker tail feathers. These birds are bright and alert but at the same time quiet, which makes a good choice for hobby farmers.

Barred Plymouth Rock

Class: English Plymouth Rocks are a good dual purpose bird. They lay nearly 200+ large brown eggs a year and have an abundant amount of meat for a bird. The roosters and hens have a gray and white pattern but, the rooster is a little lighter in color. They are a cold hardy breed and will adapt to confinement or free range.

Buff Orpington

Class: English The Buff Orpington is a beautiful yellow gold bird. They are a friendly even affectionate breed. Laying between 175-200 eggs a year. These hens have a strong tendency to go broody, which makes them excellent mothers. Having Buff Orpington’s in your back yard will bring you new chicks each spring.

Class: Mediterranean White Leghorns are the most popular of the Leghorn family. They are known for their high egg laying production. They originated from Italy, Denmark and England. They produce 220-300 eggs per year.

Golden Sex-Links

Class: American This hybrid breed is one of today’s top egg layers in the commercial industry. They can effectively produce 250-280 large eggs a year. The hens are light inn weight which makes their feed conversion to eggs excellent. The roosters are solid creamy white while the hens are streaked with tan and gold colors.

Black Sex-Links

Class: American Black Sex-Link is also a similar hybrid to the golden sex link. They produce an abundant amount of eggs 250-280 large brown eggs a year. They are claimed to be a cold hardy bird due to their barred rock genetics. For that reason the rooster looks identical to the barred rock with the added color of reddish-dust in he neck. The hens are black with streaks of red-rust in their necks.

Class: The Aquilla is a mixed breed between the Black Australorp, White Plymouth Rock and the Rhode Island red. You will find this breed is great for egg production. Their appearance is most similar to the Black Australorp.

Novogen

Class: The Novagen breed is great for free ranging. They are a mix of the Rhode Island red and White Leghorn. These birds mature quickly, egg production begins at 20 weeks. Full grown they will weigh no more than 4 lbs.

This assortment of runner ducks includes: black, chocolate, blue and fawn and white. Mature males grow up to 5 pounds and females 4 pounds. Runners are a unique bird due to their characteristics instead of waddling when they walk, tend to stand tall and run. The breed does not fly and rarely goes broody. Females may lay 150-200 eggs a year of a white to slightly green color.
